Fire-rated and smoke-resistant assemblies can be compromised long after construction is complete. Electrical work, low-voltage cabling, plumbing modifications, HVAC work, renovations, and routine maintenance can leave behind open penetrations, damaged firestop systems, abandoned openings, and undocumented modifications.
Omega Barrier Solutions provides visual assessments of accessible fire and smoke barriers to identify potential deficiencies, document their locations, and develop a practical remediation path.
Request a Fire Barrier AssessmentFor facility managers, building owners, property managers, and engineering teams.
Years of maintenance and contractor activity can compromise fire and smoke barriers without appearing on ordinary maintenance reports. Omega surveys accessible barrier conditions and documents potential deficiencies before they become an operational, inspection, or life-safety issue.
Assess Your FacilityFor hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, skilled nursing facilities, behavioral health facilities, rehabilitation facilities, and other healthcare occupancies.
Healthcare facilities depend heavily on fire and smoke compartmentation. Omega can evaluate accessible penetrations and barrier conditions before AHCA, CMS, Joint Commission, or other regulatory/accreditation surveys.
For sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing, 503A sterile compounding, 503B outsourcing facilities, biologics, laboratories, and controlled manufacturing environments.
A poorly sealed penetration can affect more than fire resistance — in controlled environments, it may also affect room separation, pressure relationships, cleanability, and contamination-control strategies.
For buyers, acquisition teams, owner's representatives, property-condition assessment firms, and commercial real-estate investors.
A building can appear well maintained while containing years of undocumented penetrations above ceilings, inside shafts, and through rated assemblies. A pre-acquisition assessment can help identify potential remediation exposure before closing.
Major institutional owners already budget dedicated consultant scope for firestop and passive fire protection evaluation as part of broader facility, construction, and building-envelope programs — treating it as a standard line item in professional asset management, not an afterthought.

Fire and smoke barriers are part of a building's life-safety strategy. When deficiencies are identified by an authority having jurisdiction, corrective action may be required. In serious circumstances, Florida fire authorities have statutory authority to require hazardous fire-safety conditions to be corrected and may restrict or preclude occupancy.
Under Florida Statute 162.09, local code enforcement boards can fine unresolved violations by default up to $250 per day for a first violation and $500 per day for a repeat violation. Larger jurisdictions (population 50,000+) may adopt an enhanced ordinance authorizing fines up to $1,000 per day for a first violation, $5,000 per day for a repeat violation, and up to $15,000 per violation found to be irreparable or irreversible.
Enforcement actions and penalties depend on the applicable code, authority having jurisdiction, notice, circumstances, and nature of the violation. This is general information, not legal advice.
Review available life-safety drawings, rated assembly information, and areas of concern.
Visually evaluate accessible fire and smoke barrier conditions.
Photograph, locate, and categorize observed deficiencies.
Provide remediation recommendations and, when appropriate, a separate corrective-work proposal.
Omega may perform remediation following a voluntary condition assessment. Code-required third-party special inspections have separate independence and qualification requirements.
Omega Barrier Solutions condition assessments are visual evaluations of accessible conditions and are intended to identify potential firestop and barrier deficiencies. Unless specifically stated otherwise, these services are not AHJ inspections, engineering evaluations, IBC Chapter 17 special inspections, accreditation surveys, or certifications of whole-building code compliance. Concealed conditions and inaccessible assemblies are excluded unless specifically included in the scope.
